Question: How do we connect with people whose views are vastly different from our own?
Agree: There are more things that connect us as humans rather than divides us.
Disagree: The power of human connections to change how we interact in society.”
For this assignment, I’ll expand on the disagreement between the people in Group B (Toni Morrison, Bryan Stevenson, and Arthur Brooks). I said they would disagree on the power of human connections to change how we interact in society because each person speaks about connection differently. For Morrison, connection depends on whether or not we are aware of our own biases and privilege. I think Stevenson would also agree with this statement. However, Brooks argues against unconscious bias and makes the bold statement that “connection destroys discrimination”. Going back to this assignment from Unit 1 was interesting to see how different people view connection and the power of it.
